Selecting the Right Shade of Lipstick

Selecting the Right Shade of Lipstick

Whether you’ve been wearing lipstick for years or you’re just now deciding you’d like to start, sometimes finding the right shade for your lips can be a challenge. There’s an easy way to discover which colors will fit best on you, you just have to know how to look.

The most important thing is to discover what kind of undertone your skin has - is it warm, cool, or neutral? Once you know this, picking out the right lipstick shades becomes a breeze!

There are a couple of tricks to discovering whether your skin undertone is warm, cool, or neutral. One way to see your skin undertone is to look at your veins. If they are more of a green color, you have a warm undertone to your skin. If they are more of a blue color, you have a cool undertone to your skin. If it’s hard to tell if your veins are green or blue, you probably have a more neutral undertone to your skin.

If the vein trick doesn’t work for you, you can always hold up jewelry to your skin. If gold jewelry looks better next to your skin, you have a warm undertone. If silver jewelry looks better next to your skin, you have a cool undertone. If both look good, you have a neutral undertone.

Now that you’ve discovered the undertone to your skin, it’s much easier to determine which colors you should wear. If you have warmer undertones, stick to the warmer colors! You’ll be able to pull off orange and red colors very well. Cool undertones to your skin means you should stick to lipstick colors that have more blue or purple undertones. Try to steer away from orange colors and more towards blue-ish reds. Light colors have a tendency to wash out those with cooler undertones as well. If you have a neutral undertone to your skin you’re in luck! You can pull off just about any lipstick color.

Regardless of your skin undertones, the best judge of lipstick shade is really up to you! Wear what you feel comfortable, confident and beautiful in. If you like a color, that’s really what matters.

Color The World has a variety of lipsticks to match whichever skin undertone you might have. From their best sellers:

Huntress has more of a natural color with warm pink undertones. It is the perfect everyday wear for both cooler and warmer undertones and acts as more of a nude color for those with darker skin.

Foxy is a creamy pink color. This one is a little more bold than Huntress and seems to be a good fit for those with a cool skin undertone.

Dragon Fruit is a warm magenta color. It is a berry color almost, which looks great on darker skin.

Glamberry has a soft slight shine with a raspberry purple color with pink/red undertones. This shade is good for all skin tones.

Girls Night Out (GNO) is also a shade that can be worn by all skin tones. It has a warm, earthy red color.

Southern Red is a color that may look better on fair skin and cool undertones. This shade has a nice bold look for lighter skin.

CoCo Razz is a creamy warm light cocoa brown color. This color looks especially good on those with darker skin or those that have a more neutral undertone.

No matter which color you choose, you must feel good in it, so feel free to experiment!

54 Year-Old Susan is Hooked!
"Life is an adventure no matter if you’re 5 years old or 60, and you can feel beautiful at whatever age you are. But the older you get the more important it is to figure out the right product for you.  See I'm 54 years old and I have been on a mission to find the perfect lipstick. One that doesn't feather or bleed.  Over the years I have been through a lot of lipsticks - but now my search is over. I have order 6 lipsticks from color the world and each and every one of them are perfect! They don't bleed or feather and the best part is they leave my lips nice and velvety soft!"

When we launched Color The World Cosmetics many said to us "you do realize that older women don't buy makeup don't you?" And we thought to ourselves how wrong are you... They do buy make up, but they get home put it on and think this was made for younger skin and then throw it into a drawer. So that is why we have worked hard to specifically formulate a product that was made for older faces. No longer will you have that frustration of throwing products into the drawer you'll be putting them on your face and saying well I really do look fabulous!
